STARTING AT THE VERY BEGINNING

Updated: Apr 3, 2020

I know, I talk about washing your hair ALL THE TIME on my social media, and since my every-so-often polls on Instagram, I have had so many of you messaging me and telling me in salon that you are doing it 'right' now... Which leads me to believe that prior to this, no one was educated properly about washing your hair. And here we are!!

I'm sure by now that you have been self-isolating and when scrolling through your Instagram feed you came across my post about HOW TO WASH YOUR HAIR PROPERLY.

But, are you wondering WHY this so important to me?

Alright! I'll tell you!

I bet you're sick of my quoting Homer J. Simpson "lather rinse and repeat, always repeat" - but Homie had it SO RIGHT!

The first shampoo (after lathering your shampoo between your hands for even distribution) simply loosens whatever is going on your scalp! Whether it be a build up of product, sweat, oil or dirt!

The second shampoo is where it's at!!!!!! The second shampoo is where it normally gets all sudsy and bubbly and you feel it cleaning and doing its job!!

It's so important that when you are shampooing your hair that you arent too rough! (yes I'm looking at you) There is legit no need to be scrubba dub dubbing your hair. Using your flats of your fingers rub the shampoo into the scalp- **BTW shampoo is for the scalp, conditioner is for your ends**

If you are too rough on your scalp, you can irritate it. This can create flakiness, or an over produce oil/sebum (sweat).

Now, after you have thoroughly (but gently) rinsed out your shampoo, it's time to condition!

For best results, always try to wring out as much water out of your hair as you can before applying conditioner, I know this seems tedious, but your hair is full of water! And if you put conditioner though super wet hair it wont be able to do its job at 100%.

Sooooo, keeping in mind what I said above ^^ shampoo is for the scalp, conditioner is for your ends - pretend like you are giving yourself a low pony tail. Conditioner in both hands and start behind the ears and work through the ends of your hair! With whatever conditioner you have left on your fingers you can run this through the tops of your hair, not missing those delicate hairs around your face!

I recommend leaving conditioner on for a few minutes, combing through with a wide toothed comb. *washes face* washes body*

and... RINSE!!! Make sure you take your time to rinse all of the conditioner out properly, especially those of you with fine/ oily hair! The less residue the better!!

Towel dry gently and then apply a leave in moisturizer and style as normal!!! (or like me, put some ELEVEN Haircare Miracle Leave in Treatment and you're good 2 go)

There are a few more things I wanna share with you about washing your hair:

1. There is no rule about how often you should be washing your hair! You can normally tell yourself when you are due. Every hair type is different, but at least twice a week is preferred.

2. If you have oily hair/skin, most likely this is an internal problem, however if you can, instead of washing your hair EVERY DAY, try doing it every second day. There are some awesome dry shampoos you can use on your off day! and remember to be gentle when washing your hair

3. PLEASE don't use your blonde shampoo EVERY WASH! It is unnecessary, the shampoo tends to build up in your hair, making the blonde that you just spent hours in the salon getting more dull and lifeless. Try using it every second or third wash, unless told by your hairdresser otherwise!

4. Please stop over washing your hair!! Shampoo opens your hair's cuticle, and doing it too often can strip the hair of its natural moisture. Also, the more often you wash your hair, the faster that new lush colour is going to fade quicker!!

If you have any questions about this plsssss feel free to message me!
